A new type of wear resistant low carbon Fe–B cast steel with granular borides can be obtained by alloying with titanium and cerium rare earth (RE). As a result, the as-cast eutectic boride structures of Fe–B cast steel are greatly refined and a blocky, less interconnected boride network is obtained from continuous ledeburite.
