Meandering channel has developed in the middle and lower Tarim River, the longest inland river flowing through a hyper-arid environment in western China. Planform features, lateral migration rate, and cutoffs of 105 typical meanders were analyzed using multi-period remote sensing images and field survey. The ratio of the channel centerline length to the neck width of meanders in the Tarim River ranges between 1.2 and 8.1, and the bend curvature (ratio of bend radius to channel width) ranges between 0.30-2.8, and the average deflection angle of the bend apexes is 79.9 degrees.
