Sulfonated polyether ether ketone (SPEEK) membranes have attracted much attention as ion exchange membranes for vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFBs) owing to their affordability and low vanadium permeability. It's noted that they suffer from poor proton conductivity at low degree of sulfonation (DS) while poor mechanical stability at high DS.
