The crystalline structures of Co9S8/NSC@C, Co9S8/NSC and Co9S8 were investigated, as shown in Fig. 1a. All these diffraction peaks were clearly indexed to the cubic Co9S8 structure (JCPDS No. 86-2273) with no impurity observed compared with the precursor of S-Co-PPy (Fig. S1). Moreover, the peaks of carbon were not detected in Co9S8/NSC@C and Co9S8/NSC, which could be ascribed to its low carbon content and high crystallinity of Co9S8. The lithium storage performance of Co9S8 suffers from the poor cycling performance due to the inferior electron conductivity, huge volume expansion and structure deterioration during cycling. Herein, we develop a new approach to prepare the Co9S8 embedded in bifunctional N/S co-doped carbon/carbon (Co9S8/[email protected]) via the pyrolysis of S- and Co(II)-containing polypyrrole precursor accompanied by Ethanol Steam Reforming.
