水作为孕育人类文明的重要资源，与人类社会相伴相生。人类社会发展中因水而生的水文化遗产，是人类***年来记录“人水关系”的历史石碑。湖南省的水文化发展史最早可追溯到大溪文化时期，并一直延续至今，其发展期间产生了丰富的水文化遗产。在对湖南水文化遗产进行普查的同时，对水文化遗产资料取样，将样本分为物质类水文化遗产和非物质类水文化遗产，以物质类水文化遗产为重点，从其地域分布特征、时间分布特征、遗产保护级别、流域分布特征4个方面进行分析，并结合分析结果对湖南水文化遗产的管理和保护工作提出方案意见。
