为满足村民的现代需求并最大化保留张家界土家传统民居风貌，基于建筑类型学的形态设计方法，以类型还原的方式从空间形制、建筑样式、建筑装饰等方面提取张家界土家传统民居的“住居原型”，以类型重构方法中的结构拓扑变换、空间要素传承、比例尺度延续、实体材料变更等方式对张家界土家传统民居进行现代转化设计研究，提出了一套较为系统的张家界地区现代土家民居设计策略，以期为少数民族地区传统民居的保护、传承与发展提供参考。
