Developing highly effective anticorrosive coating for stainless steel bipolar plates is essential to proton exchange membrane fuel cells. In this work, Cr2AlC MAX phase coatings are deposited on SS304 substrates using direct current magnetron sputtering technology with various substrate temperatures. The optimized coating deposited at 600 °C exhibits superior corrosion resistance, with a corrosion current density (Icorr) of 1.45 × 10−8 A·cm−2 and an interface contact resistance (ICR) of 9.04 mΩ cm−2.
