Fostering students’ autonomous learning ability is an everlasting topic in education and teaching. This paper investigates the autonomous learning ability of first-year English majors in the ubiquitous learning environment by questionnaire surveys and face-to-face interviews. Results indicate that most first-year English majors have a good command of self-regulation, but the ability of self-planning, information processing, communicating and cooperating need to be improved.
